4 DAY NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY RETREAT

A Creative Escape in Norway’s Most Unique Cabins

June 11-14, 2026

A Unique Experience in the Mirror Cabins of FURU

This is not just a photography workshop.
It is a carefully curated, boutique creative retreat in the Norwegian forest.

Designed for couples or close friends who value meaningful experiences, this 4-day experience combines luxury accommodation, regional cuisine and focused photographic learning in an intimate setting.

You will stay for three nights in the modern mirror cabins of FURU, where design and nature blend seamlessly. Surrounded by forests, lakes and silence, this small-group experience (maximum four participants) allows for personal guidance, depth and real creative growth.

The focus lies on nature and intimate landscape photography - learning how to create simple yet powerful images through thoughtful composition, awareness of light and intentional techniques.

We will explore the quiet forests, meadows and lakes around the cabins, spend a day photographing the open landscapes and waterways of Sjusjøen, and capture the dynamic waterfalls in the surroundings of Lillehammer.

From delicate macro details of flowers in bloom to flowing water captured in long exposures - this retreat offers a balanced mix of stillness and movement.

Beyond photography, you will also gain unique insight into the philosophy behind FURU. During a special conversation with Friederike, the founder of FURU, you will learn about the vision behind the mirror cabins and exchange ideas about Norwegian art, architecture and design.

This is not about rushing from one iconic viewpoint to the next. It’s about slowing down and learning to truly see.

With only two mirror cabins available, spaces are extremely limited.

Where you will stay…

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival & Creative Foundations

Thursday, June 11

Arrival in the afternoon and check-in to your FURU mirror cabin.

We begin with a relaxed introduction session covering:

  • Essential camera settings

  • Core composition principles

  • Creative intention in nature photography

In the evening, we gather for our first group dinner featuring regional specialties.

If time and light allow, we head out for a sunset session close to the cabins - a gentle and inspiring start.

Day 2 – Landscapes of Sjusjøen

Friday, June 12

In the morning we head towards Sjusjøen, known for its beautiful lakes, open meadows and quiet forests.

During this day we focus on:

  • Foreground and background balance

  • Leading lines and visual flow

  • Creating depth in open landscapes

  • Working with changing light and weather

After lunch in Sjusjøen, we continue exploring the surrounding landscapes and waterways. Depending on conditions, we may take an easy hike to photograph sunset in the evening light.

Back at FURU, we conclude the day with a photo editing and image review session, refining selected images together and discussing composition and visual storytelling.

Day 3 – Waterfalls & Creative Refinement

Saturday, June 13

After breakfast, we head towards Lillehammer to photograph waterfalls in the surrounding landscape.

Here we explore:

  • Long exposures and silky water effects

  • Dynamic compositions with flowing water

  • Balancing highlights and shadows

  • Technical precision using tripods

In the afternoon we return to the cabins.

Later in the day we gather for another editing and feedback session, where we refine your strongest images and discuss creative decisions in your photography.

The evening concludes with dinner together, including a special outdoor dinner over open fire.

Day 4 – Reflection & The Story Behind FURU

Sunday, June 14

After breakfast we gather for a special conversation with Friederike, founder of FURU.

During this session she will share the story and philosophy behind the mirror cabins and offer exclusive insights into the concept of FURU, followed by an inspiring exchange about Norwegian art, architecture and design.

This final moment creates a beautiful bridge between nature, creativity and design - the elements that define this retreat.

Afterwards, the workshop concludes and participants depart.

Meet your guide

This retreat will be guided by Julien Pröpper, a Stockholm-based landscape photographer and educator with extensive experience in leading photography tours and workshops across Scandinavia.
