Explore Scotland’s Wild Highlands!

Discover dramatic mountains, legendary coastlines and ancient landscapes - while taking your landscape photography to the next level.

Join me for seven unforgettable days through the Scottish Highlands and the breathtaking Isle of Skye, one of Europe’s most iconic and photogenic destinations.

March is one of the most exciting times to photograph Scotland. After winter, the landscapes begin to come alive again, while snow often still covers the mountain peaks. Fast-changing weather brings dramatic skies, shifting light and moody conditions that make the Highlands so special. At the same time, the main tourist season has not yet begun, allowing us to enjoy many locations with fewer crowds and a more authentic atmosphere.

Towering peaks rise above deep glens, waterfalls tumble through rugged valleys, and wild coastlines stretch into the Atlantic. On Skye, dramatic sea cliffs, jagged rock formations and ever-changing light create endless opportunities for powerful landscape images.

With a small group of just six photographers, we will explore the most inspiring locations between Skye and Glen Coe, photographing epic mountain scenery, moody coastlines, waterfalls and hidden gems along the way.

We will stay four nights in the beautiful Skeabost House Hotel near Portree, perfectly located for exploring the island’s best photography spots, followed by two nights in Onich Hotel near Glen Coe, surrounded by some of the most spectacular mountain landscapes in Scotland.

Our schedule is designed around sunrise and sunset, when the light is at its most magical. During the day we will review images, discuss compositions and work on editing techniques together.

Whether you are an enthusiastic beginner or an experienced photographer, I will help you refine your skills and create images you are truly proud of.

Let’s explore Scotland’s Wild Highlands together!

Itinerary

Landscape photography is all about being in the right place at the right moment.

Rather than following a strict timetable, this tour is designed with flexibility in mind so we can adapt to the weather and light conditions in Scotland. Based on the forecast, we will decide each evening where to photograph the next day to make the most of every opportunity.

Our days will generally revolve around sunrise and sunset, when the light is at its most beautiful. During the day we will review images, discuss compositions and work on editing techniques together.

The outline below gives you an idea of the overall structure of the tour.

Day 1 - Arrival & Journey to the Isle of Skye

In the afternoon, we will meet at Inverness Airport or pick you up from your hotel in Inverness. From there, we begin our scenic drive towards the Isle of Skye and our first hotel, Skeabost House Hotel near Portree.

After arrival, you will receive a short introduction covering camera settings and the fundamentals of landscape composition. Over dinner, we will get to know each other, discuss the plan for the coming days and go through all important tour details.

If time and conditions allow, we will head out for our first shoot at sunset or blue hour at one of Skye’s iconic locations.

Day 2-4 - Exploring the Isle of Skye

Over the next three days, we will explore the breathtaking landscapes of the Isle of Skye and photograph many of its most iconic and hidden locations.

From dramatic mountain scenery and winding roads to rugged coastlines, waterfalls and ancient rock formations, Skye offers endless opportunities for powerful landscape images. Depending on weather and light conditions, we visit locations such as the Old Man of Storr, Quiraing, Neist Point Lighthouse, Fairy Glen, Elgol and the famous Fairy Pools.

Our schedule will be built around sunrise and sunset, when the light is at its most atmospheric. During the day, we will have time to rest, review our images, discuss compositions and work on editing techniques together.

With three full days on Skye, we can stay flexible and make the most of the ever-changing Scottish conditions while fully immersing ourselves in one of Europe’s most spectacular landscapes.

Day 5 – Journey to Glen Coe

After our final morning on the Isle of Skye, we begin our journey east towards the dramatic mountain landscapes of Glen Coe, where we will spend the next two nights near Onich.

Along the way, we will make several carefully chosen photo stops at some of the Highlands’ most scenic locations. Depending on timing, weather and conditions, we may photograph the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct, the beautifully situated Kilchurn Castle or other hidden gems along the route.

This travel day offers a wonderful opportunity to capture a variety of landscapes, from coastal scenes and lochs to historic landmarks and mountain vistas.

By the evening, we arrive at our hotel near Glen Coe, perfectly located for the next chapter of our Scottish photography adventure.

Day 6 – Glen Coe & Highland Icons

We begin the day with an early sunrise session at the beautifully located Castle Stalker and Kilchurn Castle, two of Scotland’s most photogenic castle locations. Reflections on calm water, misty surroundings and the soft morning light can create truly magical conditions.

After breakfast, we continue with a full day exploring the spectacular landscapes around Glen Coe. Towering mountains, dramatic valleys, winding roads and waterfalls make this one of the most iconic regions in the Highlands.

Throughout the day, we will photograph some of the area’s most famous viewpoints and hidden gems, adapting our route to the weather and light conditions. Possible locations include mountain passes, river scenes, waterfalls and classic roadside compositions.

This day offers a true Highlands experience and some of the most dramatic scenery of the entire tour.

Day 6 - Departure day

On our final morning, we may head out for one last sunrise session, making the most of the beautiful Highland scenery before the journey home. Depending on conditions, this could be in the Glen Coe area or at another scenic location nearby.

After breakfast, we begin our drive back to Inverness, enjoying the final views of the Scottish Highlands along the way.

Arrival in Inverness is planned for the afternoon, where I will drop guests off either at Inverness Airport or at a hotel in the city centre. We leave Scotland with full memory cards, new inspiration and unforgettable experiences from a truly special week.

Meet your guide!

Hej there! I’m Julien.

I am a professional landscape photographer based in Sweden and I have spent the past years exploring many of Scandinavia’s most beautiful places with my camera. Photography has taken me to incredible locations - but what I enjoy just as much is sharing this passion with others.

During my photo tours and workshops, I love helping photographers improve their skills, discover new perspectives and create images that truly tell a story. Over the past years I have guided hundreds of aspiring photographers on workshops and photo walks across northern Europe. It is always such a pleasure to see participants grow creatively and return home with images they are proud of.
