Explore Europe’s last Wilderness at the peak of autumn!
Lapland in the northernmost part of Scandinavia impresses with majestic mountain peaks, crystal-clear lakes and thundering waterfalls. With its wild & untouched landscapes, it’s no wonder that this region is often called “Europe's last Wilderness”!
When autumn arrives early September, the Arctic tundra and birch forests explode in a vibrant palette of deep red, gold and orange, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Scandinavian mountains. With a bit of luck, the first snow will cover the mountain tops.
And above all, it’s the first month of the season that the magical Northern Lights are back at the night sky and can be witnessed with amazing displays.
Our 6 Day Photography Tour is crafted for everyone who is enthusiastic about exploring raw and wild landscapes, capturing gorgeous autumn colors and experiencing the Arctic.
In small group of aspiring photographers, we embark on a journey through the most scenic parts of Swedish Lapland with plenty of photo opportunities: from breathtaking nature in Abisko National Park to stunning mountain views and small fishing huts at the shores of the large mountain lake Torneträsk.
We will take advantage of the most atmospheric light both during sunrise (6am) and sunset (7pm) which are the prime times for landscape photography. With a bit of luck, we may also encounter wild animals such as moose or reindeer.
During the day, we have time to discuss the results of the shootings and to edit our photos together. I will show you my post-processing workflow in Lightroom and how to edit your photos efficiently.
When the nights are clear and the conditions are promising, we will head out to capture magical photos of Northern Lights! With its clear skies and remote location, Abisko is one of the best places in the world to witness this amazing natural phenomenon!
You’ll go home with a portfolio that truly reflects the magic of Indian Summer in Swedish Lapland.
Disclaimer: The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon which cannot be guaranteed - but Abisko’s position increases your chances significantly. With my experience, flexible planning, and real-time weather/Aurora tracking, we’ll always position ourselves for the best possible chances.
Why join this photo tour?
Small group experience
The tour is limited to just 6 participants. This allows me to give you personal feedback, answer questions and support you individually throughout the trip.
Carefully selected locations
Over the past years I have explored Swedish Lapland extensively and selected locations that offer the most inspiring photographic opportunities.
Focus on the best light
We will photograph mainly during sunrise and sunset when the landscape is at its most beautiful.
Learn while you travel
Besides shooting on location, we will also spend time reviewing images and editing together. This allows you to understand the full creative process from capture to final image.
Relaxed and inspiring atmosphere
My goal is to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable, inspired and motivated to grow creatively.
Itinerary
Landscape photography is all about being in the right place at the right moment.
Instead of following a strict timetable, this tour is designed with flexibility in mind so that we can adapt to the conditions we encounter in Swedish Lapland. Based on the weather forecast, light conditions and tides, we will decide each evening where to photograph the next day. This approach allows us to make the most of the available light and increases our chances of capturing truly special moments in the landscape.
Our days will generally revolve around sunrise and sunset, when the light is most beautiful and atmospheric. During the middle of the day we will have time to review our images, discuss compositions and work on editing techniques together.
The outline below gives you an idea of the overall structure of the tour.
Day 1 - Arrival day
In the afternoon, we will meet at our first hotel Camp Ripan, located just outside of the city center of Kiruna. On this first day, you will get a short introduction about camera settings and basics in landscape composition. We will also have dinner together, talk about the plans for the photo tour and share other important information.
If time permits and conditions allow, we will head out and photograph the historic mining town of Kiruna.
Day 2 - Learn about the Sámi culture and visit the famous Ice Hotel
On the second day of the tour, we will head to Jukkasjärvi, a small village near Kiruna that was once established as Sámi marketplace. You will have the chance to photograph this picturesque little village with its red colored houses. You will also learn more about the Sámi culture at the open-air museum Nutti Sámi Siida as well as visit the art exhibition at the famous ICEHOTEL! We will even taste some traditional Sámi food for lunch.
In the afternoon, we will head to our next destination, Abisko National Park.
Days 3-5 - Exploring the wilderness of Swedish Lapland
On the next 3 days, we will explore and photograph the most scenic spots in the area of Abisko. We will have the chance to explore the unique nature of Abisko National Park with its roaring canyon Abiskojokk, its impressive mountain peaks and ancient birch & pine forests. We will also find plenty of photo opportunities at the shores of the large mountain lake Torneträsk with its crystal-clear water and amazing reflections. If we are lucky, we can even experience the magic of the Northern Lights which can already perform spectacular dances in the night sky. Imagine capturing these breathtaking moments with your camera!
Our charming hotel in Abisko will be close to the best photo spots, so we will have chance to shoot both during sunrise and sunset. We will plan each day dependent on the weather, but be prepared to be outdoors from sunrise till sunset. There is a list of locations we want to visit during the trip, but we won't have a fixed itinerary to be able to give you the best possible experience. Of course I will be available for any questions during the whole trip!
On our last evening, we will have our farewell dinner together as a group and the possibility to discuss your achievements of the trip.
Day 6 - Departure day
On the last day, we will have the chance to use the morning for a photo shooting. After that, we will drive back to Kiruna to be able to catch your flight in the afternoon.
What you will learn
During the tour we will work on several important aspects of landscape photography:
Finding strong compositions
Working with natural light during sunrise and sunset
Long exposure techniques for waterfalls, lakes and rivers
Using filters creatively
Understanding visual storytelling in landscape photography
Editing landscape images efficiently in Lightroom
No matter your current level, I will adapt my guidance to help you get the most out of the experience.
Meet your guide!
Hej there! I’m Julien.
I am a professional landscape photographer based in Sweden and I have spent the past years exploring many of Scandinavia’s most beautiful places with my camera. Photography has taken me to incredible locations - but what I enjoy just as much is sharing this passion with others.
During my photo tours and workshops, I love helping photographers improve their skills, discover new perspectives and create images that truly tell a story. Over the past years I have guided hundreds of aspiring photographers on workshops and photo walks across Scandinavia. It is always such a pleasure to see participants grow creatively and return home with images they are proud of.
I would be very happy to guide you through Swedish Lapland.

If any location is out of your comfort zone, you’re more than welcome to shoot another location, stay at the hotel and rest, or wait until we get to another more comfortable location for you.
