Explore the wild & untouched Senja!

Senja is located in the northernmost part of Norway and the country’s second biggest island. This wild and remote archipelago has everything that you can dream of as photographer: impressive mountain peaks, stunning fjords, rugged coastlines and picturesque fishing villages. It’s not far-fetched that Senja is often called “Norway in Miniature”. Unlike the Lofoten Islands, Senja is still rather unknown and truly a hidden gem for photography!

Winter gives the majestic landscapes of Senja the extra little touch of beauty. The mountains are wrapped in a white robe of snow, the low sun gently illuminates the landscapes with a golden light and during the night, the magical Northern Lights are dancing at the sky.

Snow-capped mountains and a calm body of water in a scenic landscape

This 6 Day Photography Tour to Senja is designed for everyone who is ready for an Arctic Photo Adventure and enthusiastic about exploring a true hidden gem for landscape photography.

You will get the chance to create stunning images at places like Tungeneset, Bergsbotn, Bøvær, and Ånderdalen National Park.

At the end of February, we will have more than 8 hours of daylight for our photography. That gives us plenty of time both for photographing and other activities. We will experience great lighting and atmospheric colors in the sky during the morning and evening hours. In the twilight of the day, with a bit of luck, we may also encounter wild animals such as moose or reindeer, which enliven the untouched nature of Senja.

We will travel in a small group of max. 6 photography enthusiasts, with plenty of time for individual guidance on site.

By the end of this week you’ll not only master landscape photography in Arctic conditions, but also confidently shoot the Northern Lights and edit your photos in Lightroom to create gallery-ready images

Disclaimer: The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon which cannot be guaranteed - but Senja’s position increases your chances significantly. With my experience, flexible planning, and real-time weather/Aurora tracking, we’ll always position ourselves for the best possible chances.

Itinerary:

Day 1 - Arrival day

In the afternoon, we will meet at our first hotel Comfort Hotel® Xpress Tromsø, located in the city center of Tromsø. On this first day, you will get a short introduction about manual camera settings and basics in landscape composition. We will also have dinner together, talk about the plans for the photo tour and share other important information. If time permits and conditions allow, we will head out on the search for Northern Lights or photograph the Arctic city of Tromsø.

A nighttime view of a long bridge with tall supports spanning a body of water, with a snow-covered mountain in the background and a small town with illuminated buildings and a distinctive triangular-shaped building in the distance.

Day 2 - Heading towards Senja

On the second day of the tour, we will head towards Senja and cross the beautiful island of Kvaløya. We will have some stops to photograph places like the fjord Ersfjordbotn and the small archipelago of Sommarøy. In the late afternoon, we will take the ferry from Brensholmen to Senja and arrive at our holiday home in the evening.

Days 3-5 - Exploring the untouched beauty of Senja

On the next 3 days, we will explore and photograph scenic spots on Norways second largest island. Senja is known for its wild and untouched nature and a true paradise for photography! There is a list of locations we want to visit during the trip, but we won't have a fixed itinerary to be able to give you the best possible experience.

You will also have the chance to book a thrilling Husky Adventure that will lead you deep into the snow-covered highlands in the back of a dogsled. This tour can be booked optionally.

On Senja, we will stay in a modern holiday home which is in centrally located at the west coast of the island and close to the main photo spots. We will plan each day dependent on the weather, but be prepared to be outdoors from sunrise till sunset (and even after sunset for Northern Lights).

During the day, we have time to discuss the results of the shootings and to edit our photos together. I will show you my post-processing workflow in Lightroom and how to edit your photos efficiently.

In the evenings, we will head out on the chase for Northern Lights which can perform spectacular dance performances in the night sky. Imagine capturing these breathtaking moments with your camera!

On our last evening of the photo tour, we will have our farewell dinner together as a group and the possibility to discuss your achievements of the trip.
