Explore Sweden’s Wild West!
Discover dramatic cliffs, colorful fishing villages and remote islands - while taking your landscape photography to the next level.
Join me for six unforgettable days along the rugged Swedish West Coast in Bohuslän, one of Scandinavia’s most beautiful and photogenic coastal regions.
Smooth granite cliffs rise straight from the sea. Small fishing villages with colorful wooden houses sit quietly along the coastline, while remote islands stretch out into the open ocean.
With a small group of just six photographers, we will explore the most inspiring locations between Gothenburg and Fjällbacka, photographing dramatic seascapes, charming villages and hidden corners of this fascinating coastline.
Our schedule is designed around sunrise and sunset, when the light is at its most atmospheric. During the day we will review our images, discuss compositions and work on editing techniques together.
Whether you are an enthusiastic beginner or an experienced photographer, I will help you refine your skills and create images you are truly proud of.
Let’s explore Sweden’s Wild West together!
Why join this photo tour?
Small group experience
The tour is limited to just 6 participants. This allows me to give you personal feedback, answer questions and support you individually throughout the trip.
Carefully selected locations
Over the past years I have explored the Swedish West Coast extensively and selected locations that offer the most inspiring photographic opportunities.
Focus on the best light
We will photograph mainly during sunrise and sunset when the landscape is at its most beautiful.
Learn while you travel
Besides shooting on location, we will also spend time reviewing images and editing together. This allows you to understand the full creative process from capture to final image.
Relaxed and inspiring atmosphere
My goal is to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable, inspired and motivated to grow creatively.
Highlights of the Tour
During this photography adventure you will experience some of the most beautiful locations along Sweden’s West Coast.
Some of the highlights include:
Dramatic granite cliffs at Stångehuvud - photograph powerful seascapes where smooth granite rocks meet the open sea
The colorful fishing village of Smögen - capture one of Sweden’s most iconic coastal villages
The wild coastal landscape of Ramsvikslandet - a fascinating place shaped by glaciers with endless photographic compositions
The remote Weather Islands (Väderöarna) - a wild and windswept archipelago far out in the North Sea, peaceful and incredibly photogenic
Itinerary
Landscape photography is all about being in the right place at the right moment.
Instead of following a strict timetable, this tour is designed with flexibility in mind so that we can adapt to the conditions we encounter along the Swedish West Coast.
Based on the weather forecast, light conditions and tides, we will decide each evening where to photograph the next day. This approach allows us to make the most of the available light and increases our chances of capturing truly special moments in the landscape.
Our days will generally revolve around sunrise and sunset, when the light is most beautiful and atmospheric. During the middle of the day we will have time to review our images, discuss compositions and work on editing techniques together.
The outline below gives you an idea of the overall structure of the tour.
Day 1 - Arrival day
We meet in the afternoon at our first hotel in the center of Gothenburg.
After getting to know each other, I will introduce some important concepts for landscape photography, including manual camera settings and composition techniques.
In the evening we will explore the city and photograph the sunset from one of Gothenburg’s best viewpoints.
Days 2-5 - Exploring the Swedish Wild West Coast
Over the next four days we will explore some of the most beautiful locations along the Swedish West Coast in Bohuslän, north of Gothenburg.
This region is known for its smooth granite cliffs, charming fishing villages and remote coastal landscapes shaped by wind and sea. Each location offers unique photographic opportunities — from dramatic seascapes to colorful harbors and quiet Nordic villages.
Because landscape photography is closely connected to weather and light, our itinerary remains flexible. Each evening we will review the forecast and choose the locations that offer the best photographic conditions for the following day.
Most of our photography sessions will take place during sunrise and sunset, when the coastal landscape shows its most beautiful and atmospheric side. During the day we will have time to rest, review our images and work on editing techniques together.
One of the highlights of the tour will be our stay on the Weather Islands (Väderöarna) - a remote archipelago far out in the North Sea. Here we will enjoy Swedish fika, a delicious dinner and relax in a wood-fired hot tub and sauna by the sea after a day of photography.
Throughout these days I will be there to guide you with composition, camera settings and creative ideas so you can make the most of every location we visit.
Day 6 - Departure day
On our final morning we will have one last photography session before returning to Gothenburg in the early afternoon.
This ensures you have enough time to catch your flight, train or ferry home.
What you will learn
During the tour we will work on several important aspects of landscape photography:
Finding strong compositions in coastal landscapes
Working with natural light during sunrise and sunset
Long exposure techniques for seascapes
Using filters creatively
Understanding visual storytelling in landscape photography
Editing landscape images efficiently in Lightroom
No matter your current level, I will adapt my guidance to help you get the most out of the experience.
Meet your guide!
Hej there! I’m Julien.
I am a professional landscape photographer based in Sweden and I have spent the past years exploring many of Scandinavia’s most beautiful places with my camera. Photography has taken me to incredible locations - but what I enjoy just as much is sharing this passion with others.
During my photo tours and workshops, I love helping photographers improve their skills, discover new perspectives and create images that truly tell a story. Over the past years I have guided hundreds of aspiring photographers on workshops and photo walks across Scandinavia. It is always such a pleasure to see participants grow creatively and return home with images they are proud of.
I would be very happy to guide you along the Swedish West Coast.

Please note that we will do some shorter hikes on this trip. The hikes will neither be long nor steep. However, it is important that all participants take care of themselves, especially when we shoot at the coastline. The stones can be very slippery. If any location is out of your comfort zone, you’re more than welcome to shoot another location, stay at the hotel and rest, or wait until we get to another more comfortable location for you.

Yes, you can bring your drone, but there are important regulations to follow. Before flying your drone, you must have registered it and have a valid Operator ID (an operator ID issued in an EU member state is valid in any EU member state).
Additionally, drones weighing over 250 grams must comply with stricter rules, including maintaining a safe distance from people and avoiding flights over crowds. Ensure you have appropriate insurance and are confident in flying responsibly.
For more detailed information about drone regulations and best practices in Sweden, visit the information issued by Transportstyrelsen.
